Members of social services departments have completely free access to the site, but for security reasons, the first time you access the site, you'll need to set up a username and a password. Thereafter you'll be able to search the site whenever you choose from any computer using your usual web browser. To search the children's services section of the site, you will need to register with a .gov.uk email address.
The efficiency of the searches is the key to TheCareIndex. It allows you to select according to the needs of the service user and find suitable placements in seconds from a mass of detail, ranging from the type of placement required, the location, the specialist services offered as well as being able to highlight additional factors such as language, ethnicity or religion.
You will also have the option to search from the whole market or a preferred providers' list which you can save, along with any regular search criteria. Results are presented in random order, so there is no bias towards any Provider in the results you have selected.
TheCareIndex doesn't play any part in the negotiations between you and the provider so when you have narrowed your choices to a select list, TheCareIndex will automatically send an email asking the providers to get in touch with you.
