About us

TheCareIndex was set up as a company in April 2006 but had been in development for well over a year before that.

My colleagues and I have had a long record of involvement with the care industry over many years, acting as consultants particularly for Providers of care services, but also for Commissioners.  We have also been responsible for the organisation, design of the architecture and build of several very large database-managed websites in the public sector - mainly for hospitals and research organisations.

It has been clear to us for some time that the skills we have could be applied perfectly to matching social services needs with what is on offer in the private sector.  In doing so we feel that we can eliminate the dreadful waste of time experienced by social services department in tracking down good- quality, perfectly-matched placements.  We are also mindful of the fact that Providers spend enormous amounts of time, energy and paper circulating availability lists to local authorities, most of which don’t reach their targets.  

We have set out to create a resource which is far better than anything which exists at present and we know that this may take a little time.  A database needs to be of a certain size before it will become a usable resource and we recognise that It will be a little time before TheCareIndex reaches that point.  We are confident though that this is the future so far as matching placements is concerned and we ask you all, please bear with us while we’re building the database, and let us know if there is any aspect of TheCareIndex that you think doesn’t work or that could be improved.
